Where Are You Going? Where Have You Been?

With summer 2011 officially kicked off, as of yesterday's solstice, now is a good time to ask where everybody's traveling this summer.

Does anyone have any cool trips planned?

(That is an annoying white rectangle, it's true. But taking it out is not worth losing this baller clip art.)

Anyway, back to what I was saying. Where are you going? Or, since my internal calendar and yours are wired for life to the rhythms of the grade school year that plops the 4th of July at the "summer's halfway over" point, where have you already jaunted off to, leaving you to sit behind your computer and gaze wistfully all day a rockin' awesome vacation photo set as your desktop image?

Finally, if you haven't skipped town yet and aren't planning to, why not?

  1. Not really going anywhere. Partner is still unemployed, getting further behind on the bills, cutting costs, etc. So no $ for travel. We've gone out to the beach at Hunting Island a couple of times, but at $10/pop, we'd be better off saving our pennies until we can afford the annual pass. *roll eyes* Ah, the conundrums of poverty.

  2. I had all these wild plans for summer trips. Man, I was going to visit at least five other states! See friends and family members I hadn't seen since my job took over my life! Take pictures with my new camera! Become more culturally informed of my own country! And then I broke my elbow and spent a solid month on the couch, writing stories that, surprisingly, do not take place on couches. Because, if there's one thing I learned during this summer I planned to learn a whole lot more than I did wind up learning, couches are BORING. Unless they're magical couches of faraway journeys and dragon-slaying. Which, so far as I know, is not the case with my own furnishings. YET.

  3. I believe I will be traveling to the keyboard quite a bit this summer, to save money and try to make more at the same time. But sweating in my cave can be tolerated only so much. I believe a trip up to Cape Cod may be in order, to indulge in lobster rolls and the smell of the sea. August will be all work.

  4. Trips we are taking....first up, heading to Hannibal, MO, to partake in the Hannibal Cannibal 5K - it's a killer - and to see a couple of good friends and their children. Next, weather and the Missouri River permitting, we're headed to Nebraska for my siblings/nieces/nephews annual camping trip. Last year included sweltering heat, torrential rains and then a tornado. Here's hoping that this year is just camping rather than braving the elements. Our last trip of the summer is our big cross country move to New York - that is the really big trip: new town, new job, new school, new life!...and then approximately a week later, I'm flying solo to Chicago for a theatre nerd conference...need to get on that panel piece...ugh!

  5. I'm going to the beach a lot. I like to wriggle my toes in the sand and write poetry.
